Barnali Chattopadhyay is a leading proponent of Sufiana mu- sic. Born and raised in a family which encouraged the finer aspects of music, Barnali was introduced to Hindustani Classical Music since her early days. She received guidance from the great musicologist Dr Ku- mar Prasad Mukhopadhyay (of Agra Gharana). Her expertise surfaced as she embraced the flavours of Banaras, while being a sincere disciple of renowned vocalist Vidushi Purnima Chaudhuri (a devoted disciple of Pandit Mahadev Prasad Mishra). She also imbibed the essence of her music from Thumri queen Shobha Gurtu. She remained under the able guidance of the legendary Thumri Singer Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi until her sudden demise.   Barnali’s mellifluous voice and delicate renditions woven with aesthetic intricacies in Thumri has earned her rave reviews for her performances. She has lent her voice to compositions by legendary music exponents, such as Dr.Balamurali Krishna, Vidushi Girija Devi, Vidushi Purnima Chaudhuri, Pt.
